Why does wavelength affect diffraction?
I think I agree with both sides. In the end some phenomenona start to defy comparison with macroscopic stuff we can see or hear in our own lives, but the OP is not wrong to push for a mechanistic or plane geometry explanation... I always do that in attempt to understand and/or justify. And look at the answer by @philFrost for some success on this one!
