During the spring of 1968, I attended 9th grade at McKinley Junior High School (in Albuquerque, New Mexico) where I got to see a special demonstration of a wheel rotating about a horizontal axis using an ultra-low-friction bearing. I was shown a modern-day wheel behaving like a self-starting Bessler wheel. During my senior year 1970-1971, I attained the rank of Eagle Scout (Troop 443, Sandia District, Kit Carson Council). I graduated from Del Norte High School in 1971.
I graduated from the University of New Mexico (UNM) in 1975 with a Bachelor of Science degree, double majoring in Mathematics and Physics, receiving cum laude honors in both. In 1975, I was selected to Phi Beta Kappa, Phi Kappa Phi, and Kappa Mu Epsilon. I was in the top 500 of the 34th William Lowell Putnam Math Competition. In 1975, I was among 38 UNM students chosen to the Who's Who among Students in American Universities & Colleges. I worked summers for Sandia Laboratories 1971-1974.
I worked the summer of 1975 for Los Alamos Scientific Laboratory, at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility. I worked as a Teaching Assistant for the University of Colorado in Boulder, during the fall and spring semesters 1975 to 1977. During the summer of 1976, I worked for the University of Colorado at the EPICS channel at the Los Alamos Meson Physics Facility. From June 1977 to summer 1979, I worked as a Research Assistant at the Nuclear Physics Laboratory (the cyclotron in Boulder, Colorado). I obtained a Master of Science degree in Physics from the University of Colorado in 1979.
I worked as a Civil Servant for the US Government employed as an Electronics Engineer (mainly working in automatic target recognition) from 1980 to 2019 at China Lake, California. I wrote in conjunction with others some TMs and TPs, while working for the Department of the Navy, in the Department of Defense. While working for the US Government, I participated with others in papers/conferences including: the Combat Information Systems Conference, the Sensors Fusion Conference, and the Automatic Target Recognizer Working Group. I got married in 1981. In 1983, my wife and I became members of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. We have two children.
