If a material is built to handle tension, would removing the tension damage it?
So leaving the guitar for an extended period of time with no strings or strings with much less tension would not warp the truss rod?

Why would the environmental lapse rate be slower near the ground?

You could probably assume that the majority of the heat flow warming the centre (which I'm interested in) will come from the top and bottom as height<<radius.
