Yes you are true , that is why I wrote magnitude of the work done. In compression work done by gas is negative therefore if the magnitude of work done is more in irreversible compression implies that work done (with negative sign) is less.

If the expression for ideal gas kinetic energy is 3/2 nRt. You could have answered me in just one line .
