An FTIR spectrum was measured for me (device from Alignment and MCT Detector) and since I'm not very familiar with FTIR I'm looking for some advice. The absorbance spectrum was obtained by measuring the reflectance of a reference sample and the actual sample. The reference sample was stainless steel and the actual sample was probably stainless steel coated with dopamine and a peptide. The spectrum shows some kind of oscillations. enter image description here

It was suggested that the oscillation is due to interference caused by the dopamine coating. The coating could act like a thin film. Unfortunately, I haven't found anything paper/ literature supporting the suggestion. Have you seen something similar?

What is the make and model of your FTIR?

I can see a clear peak at about 2400 cm^-1. Its also quite small compared to the noisy mess at around 500 cm^-1.

The oscillations are typical of interferograms, but your output is in absorbance. This leads me to think the experiment was not done correctly.

To get the spectrum, I suggest running Amplitude Step Scan Modulation and have it output the 'Single Beam'. Each make of FTIR has their own methods, but the Help section can explain how to go from Single Beam to output your spectrum in wavenumbers.

If indeed you find that peak again, then I would suggest looking at materials databases such as HITRAN: https://www.nist.gov/pml/atomic-spectra-database
