Jan 23, 2014 at 11:44 | comment | added | Ayush Pateria | I know. Electric field will be directed from N to P in the diode and from positive terminal to negative terminal in the circuit, so they are in the same direction!
Jan 23, 2014 at 11:39 | comment | added | John Rennie | No, you get a negative charge to the left of the PN boundary and a positive charge to the right.
Jan 23, 2014 at 11:23 | comment | added | Ayush Pateria | Exactly, but how is it opposite to the potential of battery? It's in the same direction right?
Jan 23, 2014 at 11:09 | comment | added | John Rennie | Because when you pull holes away to the left you leave behind a net negative charge, and likewise when you pull electrons to the right you leave behind a net positive change.
Jan 23, 2014 at 10:53 | comment | added | Ayush Pateria | How can the potential difference across the depletion layer be opposite to the battery potential? The potential in the depletion layer is from N to P and due to battery is from positive to negative terminal, so they both are in same direction, right?
