Where can some worked problems in classical mechanics (and more specifically the Lagrangian and Hamiltonian formalisms) be found?
@KyleKanos Is that so? I have had professors direct me to just look for a pdf online rather than going to the library.

Is it possible to overload a lightning rod?
In short, YES it is possible, but lightning rods and, more importantly, lightning strike management systems are engineered to withstand the strikes.

Is it possible to overload a lightning rod?
It definitely is possible. Lightning is just an electric discharge so you could drive a large current which paired with the resistance of the rod would cause a large amount of heat to accumulate in the rod. Like @Jim said this could cause the rod to melt. If you don't get an answer by tonight I'll get you specifics when I have some extra time.

Can we measure temperature of a object just by the sound it makes?
How would the object make a sound? Are you asking about the sound of dropping it - like from this awesome SE post?

Does a simple double pendulum have transients?
Okay that may just be a matter of definition then :) I'm not sure what the "official" physics definition is. Did the rest of my answer solve your question?
