This tag is for questions regarding to the Unruh effect (also known as the Fulling–Davies–Unruh effect), the hypothetical prediction that an accelerating observer will observe a thermal bath, like blackbody radiation, whereas an inertial observer would observe none. It was described by Stephen Fulling in 1973, Paul Davies in 1975, and William Unruh in 1976.

Does thermal state in Rindler spacetime correspond to Minkowski vacuum?

OON's idea can be made more precise to obtain an example of state which is identical to Minkowski vacuum in the left Rindler wedge but is different in the right wedge. It is just matter of a correct …

Quantization on Minkowski/Schwarzschild spacetimes based on unusual surface

The "quantization procedure", in the modern language, is nothing but the choice of a state over the $*$-algebra of quantum field used to build up a Fock representation via GNS rencostruction. A stand …

Interpretation of the nonuniqueness of vacuum of QFT in flat spacetime for a given inertial ...

First of all, a state of the type you consider is said to be Gaussian or quasi-free. These states are completely defined by their two-point function $\omega(t_x,x,t_y,y)$ -- which is supposed to defi …

Direction of Unruh radiation

To answer the question, a comparison is convenient with the phenomenology of the Hawking radiation to make evident some crucial differences. First of all, what actually happens for an accelerated ob …

Is the Unruh effect a special relativistic effect or a general relativistic effect?

It is a SR phenomenon since it would be true even if GR were false: no equivalence principle, no Einstein equations, etc. (and thus it is independent of it). The said effect is a consequence of proper …

Rindler-Fulling Quantization - Rindler mode expansion of $\phi$: why are we ignoring the Pas...

There are two things you should observe. First, the union of the two open wedges is a (non-connected) globally hyperbolic spacetime in its own right, so quantization is possible without problems. Se …
