# What would happen if I used a jet pack that accelerates at $g$ but always upward?

I'm trying to imagine what would happens if gravity is cancelled. I assume that without air, if the effect of gravity were to disappear I would fly off Earth on a tangential line. But with the air dragging me along would I ascend straight up or at an angle?

Or maybe the jetpack doesn't even cancel out gravity but does something else?

• Have you looked at en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coriolis_force ? It's a big article, and mostly focuses on horizontal motion, but see the section containing "objects travelling upwards (i.e., out) or downwards (i.e., in) are deflected to the west or east respectively". – PM 2Ring Feb 8 at 11:23
