A stationary transmitter transmits RHCP radio waves. These are reflected by aircraft as LHCP. A stationary receiver receives them using a vertically polarised Yagi-Uda antenna. Is the polarization loss at the receiver end $-10\cdot\log_{10}(0.5)=+3.0$ dB when only perfect reflection is considered?

  • $\begingroup$ yes, a linear polarized antenna of any orientation will receive a left or a right circularly polarized signal with 3dB loss $\endgroup$ – hyportnex Jan 22 at 15:56
