Imagine a lake, and you measured the distance from each molecule to it's neighbours for molecules to within say 3 molecular radii.
Taking this data you could reconstruct the positions of the molecules in the lake.
Now would it be possible to define some equations that said how these distances changed with time as the molecules moved about in relation to it's neighbours. Together with rules about when a molecule becomes a neighbour of it's neighbour etc.
In other words, some equations of molecular fluid dynamics without a background coordinate system?
