Has this got something to do with the greater mass of the longer object or greater mass of air inside it? Why are shorter wavelengths not equally prominent?

It's a pretty literal explanation. A longer tube can fit a longer wavelength. In fact, all standing waves that can exist in a tube are fractional divisions of the fundamental (longest) wavelength that can fit.
