Aug 5 at 14:23 comment added ACuriousMind This Hamiltonian as written is in the position basis, i.e. it is an operator on position wavefunctions $L^2(M)$ (and the $\mathcal{A}$ operator obviously acts as $\mathcal{A}^i \psi(x) = \mathcal{A}^i(x) \psi(x)$), i.e. $M$ determines the space of states. What more is there to "encode"?
