Jul 8 at 19:04 comment added Avantgarde It's not correct to assume that $h_{\mu \nu} << 1$ means that it is 'small enough'. This is true only in Cartesian coordinates, and not in spherical coordinates, for instance (there, we also have the radial coordinate $r$ in the flat-space metric).
