May 10, 2023 at 12:37 comment added Not_Einstein Re. your first paragraph (which I'm sure is right but leads to some confusion on my part)...Friction acts either to oppose relative motion or prevent relative motion. In rolling down the ramp, the point in contact with the ramp is not moving so the latter role of friction comes into play. The relative motion of the contact point is to move up and away (clockwise) from the ramp so why wouldn't we say friction should point down the ramp to oppose this?
