Just a big ol' slice down the middle. Would it drift apart over time, or eventually fuse back together?

Note: Assume that the factors that would make the moon parts drift/fuse are suspended when the slicing occurs. Then, I'm asking what happens when the factors resume. For example, gravity is suspended when the moon is being sliced. However, gravity resumes when the slicing is completed.
