Mar 21, 2021 at 23:20 comment added Anas Khaled I mentioned that in my first comment on this post, I traced back the fact that light is the max speed, and I ended up by the question I asked here, and lorentz transformation was one those things on the trace back route. So I traced back its proof and I ended up here, asking about Clausius.
Mar 21, 2021 at 21:34 comment added Ruslan It's just the way SR works: for $v>c$ you get an imaginary value of the factor $1/\sqrt{1-v^2/c^2}$ that appears in Lorentz transformations. This is unphysical, because e.g. position can't have an imaginary value. Thus, either SR is very wrong (if we discover superluminal motion), or $c$ is the speed limit.
Mar 21, 2021 at 14:00 comment added Anas Khaled If it is all just a theory, this means that light speed isn't proved to be the speed limit, and that light might actually have mass, and time dilation might also be wrong. This ruins everything. But as you said, einstein's theories are theories... that's a great addition, thank you so much!! But I still want a answer to my question, when light was said to be the speed limit, there was a reason. It didn't come out of nowhere, right ?
Mar 21, 2021 at 12:54 comment added Ruslan No, it doesn't imply that. And what is Einstein's theory if not a theory? Definitely not an absolute truth—but we don't have anything better at present.
Mar 21, 2021 at 12:48 comment added Anas Khaled @Ruslan, what you are saying means that light speed is not the speed limit. If this doesn't have proof, and it's just a theory, then all einstein's discoveries and equations are also theories. And that's not the case, right ?
Mar 21, 2021 at 8:54 comment added Ruslan All of theoretical physics is just a theory, speed limit in SR is also a consequence of the theory.

Mar 18, 2021 at 14:46 comment added Anas Khaled But this must have a proof, I traced back the reason why light is said to be the max speed, from einstein to lorentz to Poincaré to lorentz again, finally, ending here. This must have a proof, otherwise, the fact that light is the speed limit will just be a theory.
Mar 18, 2021 at 14:19 comment added Jon Custer Well, they didn't know what the proper theory was - varies theories were being put out there to figure it all out.
