Jan 16, 2013 at 16:18 comment added anna v see my edit to the answer. btw I had no intention of insulting you. It is just that when one knows the level of knowledge of the questioner one can gear the answer to that level. It is not demeaning to be young and a student. You have a lot of great stuff to learn ahead of you.

Jan 16, 2013 at 15:49 comment added user14445 @annav But this is my favourite quote, and it describes my feelings perfectly: "The error of youth is to believe that intelligence is a substitute for experience, while the error of age is to believe experience is a substitute for intelligence". I don't understand your statement though: 'monopoles do not exist because nobody has ever recorded any, no data exists'. I agree with the last part of the sentence, but not with the first. Theoretically (from what I've understood) they might exist but they've never been observed; so we don't know. But maybe that's just physicist's lingo, I don't know.
Jan 16, 2013 at 15:45 comment added user14445 @annav I felt a bit insulted, but I guess that's just teen rebellion on my part. What I want to tell you and what you should NEVER forget is that my appreciation for every single user in this forum is undescribably huge. That there are people who take time off to help people without usually directly gaining benefit from it, makes me happy.
Jan 10, 2013 at 21:05 comment added anna v @ChrisGerig I do not understand what respect has to do with physics, this is not a tea party. Why should one not want to ascertain to what level the answer should be geared? BTW Should I ask respect for my white hair? And somehow you think that a theory is reality. Monopoles do not exist because nobody has ever recorded any, no DATA exists.
Jan 10, 2013 at 20:42 comment added Chris Gerig -1 for multiple reasons: 1) you disrespectfully question his age and lack of physics knowledge; you're not expected to be of a certain age nor expected to be fluent in physics. 2) "there exist no magnetic monopoles" is flawed, because theoretically they exist (and should exist) and in reality we just haven't located them (so you can't fully dismiss it!).

Jan 8, 2013 at 21:14 comment added anna v Right , but it is a guess. There are a number of students of mature years nowadays.
Jan 8, 2013 at 21:11 comment added user14445 @annav Well in that case, you could have seen the comment below my question (which predates your answer) and see that I'm in high school. Also, I referred to my educator as 'teacher', not 'professor'; this could have also helped you.
Jan 8, 2013 at 21:10 comment added anna v Well, age helps to know that you are in high school without having to ask. One answers differently to a 70 year old asking the same question than to a student.
Jan 8, 2013 at 21:09 comment added dmckee --- ex-moderator kitten @user14445 Your age and preparation are only relevant insofar as they help us write answers that will be useful to you. You are not required to provide such information but doing so might get you better answers.
Jan 8, 2013 at 21:08 comment added user14445 I don't know why my age is relevant, so I don't state it in my profile. Also, my physics background is not huge, I'm still in high school. I read the wikipedia article in my native language before consulting this site, and it showed nothing of use (Dutch if you're feeling pessimistic).
