It's just like how, each pixel in the image formed by a camera represents the intensity of light coming from a particular, unique direction. A camera forms images by means of its lens: The lens bends light rays coming from different directions to strike different pixels on the image sensor. Are you asking how a radio telescope (or as in this case, an array of radio telescopes) is able to form an image?
