Jan 15, 2020 at 9:47 comment added RedSonja I used to have a neighbour who played a saw (a long wood saw with a violin bow), and it made much the same sound as a theremin. Played late in the evening, outside in the garden, in the dark, it was sometimes very eerie.

If you had gone your whole life without hearing a french horn, and then heard one for the first time without being told what it was, I would bet that you would think it sounded "off", too.
