Sep 19, 2017 at 11:15 comment added user107153 Quite apart from the relativity point of view as given by John Rennie (which is the correct one), if you are interested in predicting the weather then you emphatically can not assume the Earth's frame is inertial. Indeed, where I work, we have a road called 'Coriolis way' whose name is a reference to just this.
