May 26, 2017 at 15:39 | comment | added | user107153 | The thing to understand is that a small single-rotor helicopter (so not something like a Chinook) doesn't conserve angular momentum considered as an isolated system: the rotor is continually dumping angular momentum into the air. So it would no be enough to have a small counter-rotating rotor: the helicopter would still spin as it dumped angular momentum into the air. | |

It's probably cheaper to have the standard arrangement of one main propeller and some method to counteract the torque. The Wikipedia artcile on helicopters goes into some detail. | |
