Jan 12, 2016 at 21:54 comment added Norbert Schuch Speakers shouldn't be part of the question (and yes, "HiFi" equipment should be available up to a much higher range). The point is that current technology has been designed for our current hearing capabilities, so likely it will not go far beyond audible range. (I mean, why should it?) But one could likely push it quite a bit if you wanted.

Jan 12, 2016 at 21:51 comment added jl6 Yes, I'm basically asking whether the current vinyl technology stack does or can record and play back inaudible frequencies. I guess I'm assuming that >20kHz-capable speakers exist.
Jan 12, 2016 at 21:49 comment added Norbert Schuch Thanks for the clarification. Does this also hold for the playback mechanism, or is it sufficient if that one is available in the future?

Jan 12, 2016 at 21:39 comment added jl6 I am asking about consumer vinyl as currently exists in 2016. Something you could conceivably buy in a shop today.

Jan 12, 2016 at 20:41 comment added Carl Witthoft Not only the medium, but the resonant response of the stylus, the frequency range of the piezo or coils, and so on. I think your question is ill-formed.
