Jul 16, 2015 at 1:12 comment added Roger D Lubos is well known for his strong opinions on that subject -- but opinions on differ between professional physicists (if they didn't, no-one would be working on loop quantum gravity). No-one yet knows for sure which approach to quantum gravity will turn out to be the final answer -- it's still an active research field. However, the original question wasn't "Which is better, loop quantum gravity or string theory?", it was "Can they connect in any way?". Relatively few people physicists have had enough interest in both of these approaches to quantum gravity to try combining them.
