I agree, what I meant is that you should probably distinguish between what is obvious to you or a competent physicist and what is obvious to the masses. You are not giving enough context in the sentence to disambiguate. From a physical standpoint your explanation does make it obvious, but your explanation is not theirs.

@RonMaimon "Davies's explanation is obviously correct", the idea might be correct, but it's not "obviously" so, since by definition if it were obviously correct people would simply agree with it. I know you probably meant "obviously to me", but it reads like "obviously for anyone".
