This may exert a force on the charge. See the other answers. May 24 comment Coulomb's Law: why is $k = \dfrac{1}{4\pi\epsilon_0}$ Maybe I'll get back to the questions once I've finished a few chapters on intro e&m. May 24 comment Coulomb's Law: why is $k = \dfrac{1}{4\pi\epsilon_0}$ Thank guys. I'm just a freshman so I can't still make out all this stuff by myself. May 21 comment Coulomb's Law: why is $k = \dfrac{1}{4\pi\epsilon_0}$ I don't think it's as simple as that. Unlike the gravitational constant G which has a numerical value and is a feature of the choice of units, k uses a constant $\epsilon_0$ which has a physical meaning. In what manner should I learn math? @Alexander: I want to understand as much mathematics as possible. But it would really take too much time, so I want to know which would really be useful.
