I received a BS in physics from Texas A&M University in 1965. After one year of grad school I went to work in engineering for Philco (Ford Aerospace) on NASA contracts at Houston. I am now retired in northern Arkansas and interested in practical ballistics as a hobby. I have been a benchrest rifle competitor and operated Boatright Custom Guns, Inc. (BCGI, now closed). I have built many precision rifles and published many articles on ballistics and riflery in Precision Shooting Magazine. Most recently, I have developed and published a Coning Theory of spin-stabilized rifle bullets. This theory explains all observable motions of rifle bullets in terms of the linear aeroballistic forces of drag and lift and the overturning moment--all without resorting to Magnus effects or other magic.
