@AlanSEWhat If one had a particular species that gives off neutrons during its decay, would increasing the bulk temperature of that material affect the neutron energy coming out? I might almost expect that to be quantized, but I don't know enough.

I'm not sure if I completely understand what you're saying. Would you let me know if my edit to my answer above is more in-line with what you're saying? I'm still struggling to formulate a mathematical form for $e(t)$ which easily allows me to take the second derivative and arrive at the formula.

I thought he defined it as laterally displaced instead of transversely displaced. If it were moving perpendicular to the unit vector then wouldn't it appear on our projected screen as just a point to us and the unit vector would not move or have any acceleration at all?

I want to convert one to the other because a book does it without justification and makes it sound trivial, but it is non-trivial to me until I'm able to follow them. I am taking the AM 1.5 spectrum and converting it to these units so I can then integrate and obtain a photocurrent by multiplying by $q$ and $A$ (area).
