I have a masters degree in Theology. And here I am doing web development.

Code in-between the lines.

Cool, thanks for the answer. With amplitude modulation, if I understand you right, it would just use a single color that varies in intensity, right? So you could use a single LED bulb with this method, but some of the complexity of the signal would be lost because it's being compressed into a single color instead of the full visible spectrum--or am I understanding this wrong? Anyway, thanks for the awesome and clear answer!

Fantastic answer, thanks! That last chart is incredible! Can you imagine if someone was able to 'read' a chart like that and figure out what was being said?

That's fascinating! It's like we can hear more than we can see!

Wow, that's a highly technical article. (Either that or very poorly written.) Usually I can read stuff like this, but I'm having a hard time figuring out what an electro-optic modulator actually is used for. Is it what is used to send the light through a fiber-optic system?

I'm not a student. I'm just interested in this because I read science fiction a lot and enjoy more realistic stories, so I'd like to know how to do this sort of math. If I was a student, I'm sure the equations would be in the textbook or provided by the professor. Please note that I'm not asking for the answers to these example questions, but asking to be pointed towards the equations I'd use to solve them (e.g. if this was homework it would be easier to read the book than post this question).
