At our lab, we have a DBR laser set up to some measuring equipment (oscilloscope, spectrum analyzer and random number generator). I have been tasked to experimentally obtain the photon lifetime of the laser. I suppose that analyzing the transient response on the oscilloscope would be a good way to begin. Perhaps seeing the relaxation oscillation frequency and using that in calculations. That is as far as I've been able to figure out and would like some pointers from the community. Thanks!
