The time has come for me to look for a thesis. I would like to do a thesis in theoretical physics concerning the structure of matter or particle physics. What, in your opinion, some interesting proposals on this topics where you can make something original?

step 1) get an advisor. step 2) ??? step 3) profit! – wsc May 8 '11 at 14:19
Yeah--you're going to have to find someone to work with at your institution first, or be very, very self-motivated, to the point that something like stackexchange won't help you. – Jerry Schirmer May 8 '11 at 14:28

Questions like this are either Too Localized (what should I do?) or too broad to be answered (what should a hypothetical, unspecified person do?). The advice wsc gives is good (well, neglecting the "profit" part...) take this as an opportunity to drop in on various professors and talk to them about what they do. – dmckee May 8 '11 at 15:36
Although now closed - you may find it useful to look at #arxivblog or this blog (backreaction.blogspot.com) for some light reading and / or inspiration. Both contain some papers and expositions of recent ideas / developments in theoretical particle physics, amongst other things. Personally I think a project on the Cosmic neutrino background would be interesting... – qftme May 9 '11 at 12:42
