I removed a shock absorber from my car, and I have a 50 pound dumbbell, I was gonna hang the dumbbell from the shock absorber and let it drop a known distance to get velocity

From my understanding, Damping Force = Damping constant * velocity

then mg = dampingC * velocity

I should be able to find the damping force right? I'm not 100% sure how to do this, the whole setup and calculation, or even if this is right.

any advice or knowledge would be appreciated!
