For my Physics class my partner and I have to do a lab assignment where we have to determine the magnetic nature of contents of three sealed boxes. My question is how can I write this information down on paper?

Hi Christa, and welcome to Physics Stack Exchange! This is a site for conceptual questions about physics, not for help on homework or lab assignments. If you can edit your question to ask about the specific physics concept that is giving you trouble, I'll be happy to reopen it. See our FAQ and homework policy for more information. – David Zaslavsky Jan 11 at 20:25

@DavidZaslavsky is absolutely right about the use of the site, but this is an interesting question. To solve it you will need to think about the different behaviors of the allowed classes of material when subject to a magnetic field, and ask "How can I turn that behavior into a measureable phenomena?". Nice. – dmckee Jan 11 at 20:47
