I'm reading the book "Microcontiuum Field Theories I: Foundations and Solids". I got some basic idea of microcontiuum theory from the book, but the book provides little illustration on the application of these theories.

So I wonder:

  1. What are the applications of Microcontiuum theory?

  2. Is the theory parallel to classical continuum mechanics, so that some materials can only be modeled with microcontiuum theory instead of classical theory?
