I read that the blueish light from a regular computer screen makes one awake since that blueish light is like sunrise and day. To prevent that, one should not use computer screens some time before going to bed, and only use incandescent light bulbs (no LED, no neon) since they have a reddish color.

One can get software to change the displays color temperature with software. I wonder whether this actually helps, since in the spectrum of the display, there is still a lot of blueish light.

Does that really help, or is it just that people believe it?

Not a physics question, really: this is a a question about humans. I can ask the mods on Skeptics if they want it, but they will require you to find a notable claim before they will accept it. – dmckee Sep 21 '12 at 22:52
