Physics Stack Exchange is a question and answer site for active researchers, academics and students of physics. It's 100% free, no registration required.

Rossi is a snake oil guy (IMHO), but why do nyteknik.se keep pushing it? They are (used to be?) the leading paper in Sweden among engineers and scientists for pop news. Usually a trustworthy (tm) source of information. Then we get stuff like this:

http://translate.google.com/translate?sl=sv&tl=en&js=n&prev=_t&hl=en&ie=UTF-8&layout=2&eotf=1&u=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.nyteknik.se%2Fnyheter%2Fenergi_miljo%2Fenergi%2Farticle3263996.ece&act=url

It is the 1 MW device from Rossi being demonstrated.

Yes I'm well aware of the www-(journal of physics) - site.

My question is, why isn't this obliterated from the map before it comes to light?

Do we really need Penn and Teller "try and fool us"?

Welcome to Physics.SE. Sorry to stomp on your first question like that, but the antics of the media are certainly off topic. Cold fusion is potentially on topic and has been addressed to a certain degree. If you want to talk about the media, chat would be reasonable. – dmckee Sep 22 '11 at 20:23
The reason is that nyteknik sent an observer who failed to notice the dry-steam problem, and if you take Rossi at his word, his machine is producing a huge amount of heat. It is almost sure that his machine is no good, that it is a cheap misting device cloaked in cold-fusion hype. The reason it gets so much attention is not the real question--- the real question is why does actual reproduced Deuterium Palladium Pons-Fleischmann cold fusion not get any attention from the media in the U.S. While this question is interesting, it is not physics, but politics and money. – Ron Maimon Sep 23 '11 at 5:51
"respected newspaper" is an oxymoron, at least on scientific topics – endolith Nov 20 '11 at 21:35
