Assuming that before Electroweak Symmetry Breaking all particles of a generation were identical, is it possible that they could be related to some kind of symmetry that is unbroken at higher energies, making them distinct from each other and leading to the ability to distinguish the otherwise identical Fermions?
Could this hypothetical force be something like the strong force minus confinement, with each of the generations forming a triplet of "flavor charge" and there being "flavor gluons" that transform between the different types? And if this was the case, what would be the relationship between this "Flavor Force" and the Electroweak force, seeing as it recognized that the particles were different and gave them different masses to reflect that?
I'd prefer if one can answer as many of the questions as it's really possible to, especially the last one, which with my limited knowledge has been bugging me lately.
Please don't hold back in pointing out errors in my thinking, I'm here to learn why I'm wrong about this, not to push the idea.
